The Jesuit Provincial of Vietnam holds a ceremony to confer priesthood on clergymen

On August 21, 2014 at the Jesuit Provincial of Vietnam (No. 19 street 5, Liunh Trung ward, Thu Duc district, Ho Chi Minh city), a ceremony was held for conferring priesthood on 9 clergymen of the Jesuit Provincial of Vietnam.

The ceremony was presided by Archbishop Paul Bùi Văn Đọc of Ho Chi Minh archdiocese and joint by priest Joseph Phạm Thanh Liêm, Superior General of the Jesuit Provincial of Vietnam and priests from the Jesuit Provincial of Vietnam and other countries, including Italy, Australia, UK, Taiwan and France. Attending the ceremony were also priests, religious men and women inside and outside the diocese; families, benefactors and friends of the new priests and many Catholic followers.

Opening the ceremony, Archbishop Bùi Văn Đọc congratulated Jesuit provincial and the Jesuit Provincial of Vietnam for 9 new ordained priests and urged people to pray for 9 priests to fulfill the mission of God entrusted to the priesthood.

After the proclamation of the Gospel, the ordainment ritual included 3 parts: Selection, Ordainment and Meaning. Archbishop gave the chalice to 9 new priests to express that the priest’s life is associated with offering worship rituals on the altar, the sacrifice on the Cross by Lord Jesuit and the chalice experience. Before the ceremony conclusion, on behalf of the Jesuit Provincial of Vietnam and new priest, priest Phạm Thanh Liêm expressed their thanks to God, Archbishop and all participants for attending the ceremony./.
