The Executive Board of Quang Binh’s Vietnam Buddhist Sangha holds a requiem ceremony in Nam Gianh Martyrs cemetery

In two days from July 19 to July 20, 2014, on the occasion of “War Invalids and Martyrs Day” (July 27), the Executive Board of Quang Binh’s Vietnam Buddhist Sangha held a requiem ceremony in Nam Gianh Martyrs cemetery (Thanh Trach commune, Bo Trach district, Quang Binh province). 

The ceremony was chaired by Most Venerable Thích Tánh Nhiếp, Head of the provincial Buddhist Executive Board and attended by Mr. Nguyễn Tiến Hoàng, Vice Chairman of Quang Binh People’s Committee, representatives from local authorities, monks, nuns, Buddhists and people in the locality.

The requiem ceremony aimed at bringing peace, spiritual uplifting for souls of martyrs heroes and war victims who laid their lives around the Gianh river.

The ceremony consists of Buddhist rituals such as: offering incense Buddha invocation, calling upon those deceased, Buddhist sutra citation, Buddhist preaching, praying…. The organization of requiem ceremony also showed the debt of gratitude to martyr heroes’ contributions to the cause of national defense and reunification.
