Thua Thien - Hue provincial People’s Council approved on May 15 a project on restoration of Thai Mieu relic site.

According to the Hue Monuments Conservation Centre, the project to restore Thai Mieu relic would be implemented in four years with the total investment of 265 billion VND.

Thai Mieu is one of the five important worshipping temples of the Nguyen Dynasty earliest built within the Hue Imperial Citadel for worshiping the ancestors of the Nguyen dynasty.

The overall Thai Mieu relic is a rather large architectural complex with over 10 constructions, arranged according to the architecture principles of Nguyen Dynasty.

In 1947, Thai Mieu along with other worshipping temple was destroyed due to war. The construction was restored in 1972 in a reduced scale. Thai Mieu temple relic area currently has only three main constructions, including Thai Mieu (almost ruined), Long Duc Palace (was restored) and Chieu Kinh Palace (newly restored).

According to the Hue Monuments Conservation Center, Thai Mieu will be restored based on preserving components that are considered original. In particular, the construction’s restoration focuses on preserving architectural and landscape vestiges of King Gia Long's dynasty, and the additions and changes in decoration, colors and materials under the reigns of Kings Minh Mang, Thieu Tri, Tu Duc, Thanh Thai, etc., as well as remove faulty components in previous repairs and expansions, prioritizing the use of traditional engineering materials and processes.
