On occasion of War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27), Son La provincial Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) hosted a requiem ceremony for heroic martyrs at Son La Prison Cemetery on July 26.
The event was attended by Politburo member and the National Assembly Vice Chairwoman Tòng Thị Phóng, Vice Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs Dương Ngọc Tấn, Secretary of Son La provincial Party Committee Hoàng Văn Chất and representatives of ministries, Central agencies and local authorities.
Most Venerable Chairman of the VBS Executive Council Thích Thiện Nhơn, dignitaries from the Central and provincial VBS, relatives of fallen soldiers and political prisoners, as well as Buddhist followers participated in the ceremony.
The requiem ceremony aims to pay tribute to fallen soldiers in the fight for national independence and freedom. From 1930-1945, French imperialism imprisoned 14 politician groups with more than 1,000 prisoners, including former Central Party Committee’s Secretary Lê Duẩn, former Chairman of the State Council Trường Chinh, former Minister of the Foreign Affairs Ministry Xuân Thủy, and martyrs Tô Hiệu and Lò Văn Giá…
Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman Dương Ngọc Tấn stressed that this event is an activity showing respect and gratitude to heroic martyrs.
Earlier, on July 25, Son La provincial VBS organized the Buddhist Parents Day festival 2015 with the participation of thousands of followers.
