The Board for Solidarity of Vietnamese Catholics in Ha Tinh province’s Huong Son district held the 7th congress of the Catholics for national construction and defense on July 13.
Representatives from the provincial and district authorities have attended the congress.

For the past five years, Catholic followers in the city have proactively engaged in movements launched by local authorities for socio-economic development in the locality. The district has over 1,500 Catholic households with incomes from 50 million to over 2 billion VND per year, creating jobs for thousands of workers. In addition, nearly 4,800 Catholics working overseas have sent hundreds of billions of VND annually to the home locality each year.
On the occasion, the city People’s Committee and the city Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee presented certificates of recommendation to 5 Catholic groups and 10 individuals for their outstanding achievements in rural development during the 2017-2022 tenure.
As reported at the event, Huong Son district currently has 13 communes and towns with Catholic residents, 11 communes and towns with parish churches. The district has 3,217 Catholics households with 13,093 parishioners, accounting for 11.28% the district population.
* Di Linh district in Lam Dong province currently has 56,766 Catholics with 22 priests, 120 nuns and 21 Catholic worshipping places. Over the past years, local parishioners in the district have proactively joint movements and programs launched for socio-economic development in the locality.

Regarding to emulation programs for socio-economic development and hunger eradication and poverty alleviation, local Catholics have promoted mutual exchanges on family business and helped each other to reduce poverty by many ways. Priests and nuns have opened four preschools, kindergartens and six groups operated by sister congregations.
Regarding to medical activities, Di Linh Leprosy Treatment Center considered as a well-functioning facility has provided medical examination and treatment for leprosy patients from many localities and operated by sisters. In addition, each parish in the district has established own medical cupboard with ordinary medicines. Local parishioners have also proactively joined the blood donation programs.
Over the past years, the Board for Solidarity of Vietnamese Catholics has contributed two billions VND to the district “Fund for the poor”
In the past 5 years, 238 young Catholics in Di Linh district enrolled in the military service and local 731 Catholic youths have participated in the militia and self-defense forces in communes and towns. Many parishioners have also joint in local social organizations. Currently, 101 Catholic followers have registered as members of the Vietnam Fatherland Front’s executive bodies in the district and its communes, and 51 parishioners are deputies of the people’s council in the district and its communes for the 2021-2022 tenure.
