Social contributions by Catholics in Ha Tinh

Ha Tinh province is currently home to 161,000 Catholic followers (accounting for 13% the provincial population) with 61 parishes and 11 women congregations, residing in all 13 districts of the province.  

Over the past years, Catholics in Ha Tinh province have actively joint social movements and programs launched by local authorities, and made practical contributions for socio-economic development, public security and social order in the locality.

In response the campaign motivating people to develop a new-style rural development in residential areas, many Catholic parishes in the province such as parishes of Tan Hoi, Ninh Cuong, Dong Trang, Nghia Yen, Cam Lam, Kim Lam, Trai Le, Loc Thuy have voluntarily made donations of land and contributions for improving rural infrastructure and local transport system.

In addition, local Catholics have proactively responded to the fundraising for the poor, disadvantaged children and victims of natural calamities, etc. Especially, during the Covid-19 pandemic, they have contributed nearly 1 billion VND to the Covid-19 prevention work.

The social charity board of parishes of Trai Le, An Nhien, Tan Thanh, Vinh Luat and the Lovers of the Holy Cross Congregations of Chan Thanh, Nghia Yen have conducted free health check and distribution of medicines for the disadvantaged as well as taken care of orphans and the elders. The Caritas of the diocese have distributed free meals for poor patients of the provincial traditional medicine hospital with 100 lunch meals per week every Saturday.
