The executive board of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s chapter in Ho Chi Minh City’s Binh Tan District reviewed its Buddhist affairs 2019 and outlined working programs for 2020 at a meeting held on January 15 in Long Thanh Temple.
As reported at the event, social charities including construction of charitable houses and rural bridges, provision of supports to the disadvantaged and contributions to the local education promotion fund by the VBS chapter in the district in 2019 was valued at over VND 11 billion.
One of key tasks set for the VBS executive board in Binh Tan during the year-end meeting in 2020 included the environment protection. Addressing the event, Most Venerable Thích Nhật Ấn, Head of the district VBS executive board, called on monks, nuns and Lay Buddhists in the district to make practical contributions for enviroemental protection and climate change adaptation, and active responses to the calls for environmental preservation by the Prime Minister and the municipal authorities.
Binh Tan district is currently home to 53 Buddhist worshipping places with 505 monks and nuns.
