The Vietnam Pure – Land Buddhist Association in Dong Thap province currently has ten chapters with the total of 71 Buddhist dignitaries, 52 deacons and over 2000 lay practitioners.
According to President of the pure – land Buddhist association in the province Lê Văn Ngọt, the Buddhist association currently operates 11 clinics providing traditional heath examinations to poor patients, and regularly opens medical discussion programs for improving professional skills and ethics for herbalists and physicians of the association.
As reported, in 2019, the medical charities by the Buddhist clinics in the province provided heath examinations to 98,149 people (5,000 VND each examination), acupuncture to 68,407 poor patients and 605,753 herbal packs with only 10,000 VND per pack. Other social charities for supporting the disadvantaged, including the presentation of supports to the poor, provision of learning tools and bicycles to students of disadvantaged families, and the construction of rural roads in the locality, etc, had the value of over 452 million VND.
The total medical and social contribution by the pure – land Buddhist association in Dong Thap in 2019 is estimated at 8.3 billion VND.
