Ngoc Chau Nhu Pagoda, located in Soc Trang’s Vinh Chau provincial city and built on 10ha of land, has been regarded as a common home for many disadvantaged people.
As the co-founder and current abbess of the Buddhist temple, Nun Thích nữ Tâm Liên shared that the majority of people in Vinh Chau provincial city are Khmer and they still face with many difficulties in their lives. So the temple has appealed for people to lend their assistance to the poor in the locality, and in response to the pagoda’s call, support for the poor from many people, including Vietnamese overseas and foreigners, has come through Ngoc Chau Nhu pagoda.
From this contribution, in the period of 2016-2018, the pagoda in collaboration with doctors and volunteers provided free health checks and medicines to 2,000 poor locals, support of over 1.5 billion VND for eye surgeries of 1,058 cataracts, and built 36 houses for the poor worth 1.2 billion VND.
In addition, given support collected, Ngoc Chau Nhu presented 142 wheelchairs to people with disabilities, 261 coffins to poor locals, 23 incense making machines to people with visual impairment, 36 bicycles to disadvantaged children, and gift packs to 10,000 disadvantaged people in Soc Trang and neighboring provinces worth VND 31 billion.
