Senior Buddhist leader passes away in Vietnam

Most Venerable Thích Thanh Đàm, Deputy Supreme Patriarch of the Patronage Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha passed away at Hoa Lac Pagoda in Ninh Binh province on January 18 at the age of 98.

During his lifetime, the superior monk has helped unite monks, nuns, and Buddhists to practice Buddhism under the motto: “Dharma - Nation – Socialism”, implement Party and State policies on religion, and actively participate in patriotic emulation movements for the community.

In recognition of his significant contributions, he has been honoured with many noble State distinctions, including the Order of Great National Unity and the Certificate of Merit from the Prime Minister.

The Patronage Council decided to hold the funeral for Most Venerable Thích Thanh Đàm according to the high-level rites of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha.

His coffin is being laid at Hoa Lac pagoda for monks, nuns, and Buddhists to pay their respects to the Most Venerable.

A memorial service will be held on January 21, and the Most Venerable will rest in peace inside the stupa on the premises of Hoa Lac pagoda.
