The main activities of the festival include a traditional music festival, a ceremony to pay tribute to President Ho Chi Minh at his statue in Vinh city, an incense offering ceremony at Kim Lien Relic site in Nam Dan district, and a youth festival and sports competition.

The highlight of this year's event is a public arts festival drawing the participation of 20 of the province’s mass art troupes.

According to Nhan Dan newspaper’s resident correspondent in Russia, at the invitation of the Governor of St. Petersburg, Georgy Poltavchenko, a delegation of Ho Chi Minh City led by Politburo member and Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee paid a visit to the city and attended a ceremony to mark the 95th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's first arrival in Russia on May 17.

Speaking at the ceremony, Governor of St. Petersburg Georgy Poltavchenko said, 95 years ago, comrade Nguyen Ai Quoc came to Russia for the first time and laid the foundation for a good and time-honoured relationship between the two countries and peoples.

President Ho Chi Minh was a true revolutionary and a great friend of the Russian people, he said, adding that St. Petersburg is proud to be the basis for a strong relationship between the two countries.

For his part, Politburo member Nguyen Thien Nhan affirmed that Uncle Ho’s first visit to Russia 95 years ago was of great significance, and has become a historical symbol for the decisive changes on the path of the cause of the national liberation, construction, and defence of Vietnam.

The people of Vietnam have received strong support in all aspects from the Soviet people in the fight for national independence and reunification as well as during the national construction and defence in the present time, he noted.
