The Hồ Chí Minh National Academy of Politics held on September 13 a seminar on the policy and law on religion in Vietnam in the past 25 years.
The seminar entitled “The Vietnam’s policy and law on belief and religion: 25-year introspection” was chaired by Prof., Dr. Director of the Academy Nguyễn Xuân Thắng, with the aim to review practical effects of Vietnam’s policies on belief and religion in the social life in the innovation period, contributing to improve Vietnam’s policies and laws in the field in the coming time.
During the event, participating delegates affirmed that the Party of Vietnam has had a new understanding relating to the religious issue, reflected in the Party’s Resolution N0 24 of the Central Committee on the strengthening of state administration on religious affairs in the new situation and in the Party’s Resolution N0 25 of the 9th Central Committee on state religious affairs
Assoc. Prof., Dr. Nguyễn Thanh Xuân from the Institute for studies of religion and belief pointed out at the event that the Resolution N0 24 and the Resolution N0 25 especially showed three important aspects of innovation regarding the religious policy in this period, including a new approach to the religious issue, a new understanding on religion and a new understanding of cultural and moral values of religion.
Regarding to the current draft Law on Belief and Religion, delegates of the seminar also urged to include a effective legal framework for religion to uphold its moral values and contribute its resources to the social welfare, health and education fields.
