Seminar on religious dignitaries & prestigious people’s role in ethnic minority and mountainous areas

The Central Vietnam Women Union (VWU) held on July 16 in Hoa Binh province a seminar promoting roles of religious dignitaries and prestigious people for ensuring gender equality in ethnic minority and mountainous areas.

The event was part of a project implementing gender equality and solving urgent problems for women and children under the National Target Program for ethnic minority and mountainous areas in the 2021 – 2030 period.
As reported at the seminar, concerning agencies have focused on implementing many measures to promote the roles of religious dignitaries and prestigious people for national construction and development. The VWU at all levels have trained over 3,000 prestigious people who are leading women members in ethnic minority and religious areas, and organized training conferences to provide information and skills on promoting gender equality for over 13,000 prestigious people in ethnic minority and religious areas.
During the gathering, practical issues relating the role of religious dignitaries and prestigious people in ethnic minority and mountainous areas have been raised and discussed. In addition, the seminar participants also have exchanged experiences and proposed solutions to promote the role of religious dignitaries and prestigious people in motivating people to change "thoughts and ways of doing", contributing to eliminating prejudices and gender stereotypes in the family and community.
