The Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee (VFF) held on December 26 a seminar on the communication and advocacy work of the VFF amongst the Khmer community in Southwest region.
The event was chaired by Vice President of the VFF Trương Thị Ngọc Ánh.
Vietnam currently has 1.2 million Khmer people living in the southern provinces of Tra Vinh, Soc Trang, Hau Giang, Kien Giang, An Giang, Bac Lieu, Can Tho, Ca Mau and Vinh Long. Most of Khmer people follow Theravada Buddhism. In recent years, the Party and State have paid much attention for supporting the Khmer community, especially policies for the socio-economic development.
The seminar emphasized the role of dignitaries and worshipping places of Khmer Therevada Buddhism in preserving and promoting fine cultural traditions as well as enhancing socio-economic development in the region.
