Seminar on Buddhist contribution to social welfare held in Hoa Binh

The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s Central Committee for Buddhist Guidance in collaboration with Hoa Binh provincial Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs held on October 17 a seminar themed "Contributions to social welfare by the VBS chapter in Hoa Binh province: Current practice and solution".  

The event saw the presence of Most Venerable Thích Thanh Nhiễu, Standing Vice President of the VBS’s Central Executive Council; Most Venerable Thích Bảo Nghiêm, Vice President of the VBS’s Central Executive Council cum Head of the VBS's central Dharma Propagation Committee and Deputy of the 15th National Assembly; Senior Venerable Thích Đức Thiện, General Secretary of the VBS’s Central Executive Council and Deputy of the 15th National Assembly; and Most Venerable Thích Thanh Điện, Deputy General Secretary of the VBS’s Central Executive Council cum Chief of the VBS’s Office in Hanoi and Head of the seminar’s Organizing Board.

Religious scholars at the event included Prof. Dr. Đỗ Quang Hưng, Former Director of Institute for Religious Studies under Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences; Assoc. Prof., Dr. Trần Đức Cường, Chairman of the Vietnam Association of Historical Sciences; Senior Lieutenant General Assoc. Prof., Dr. Nguyễn Văn Thành, Vice Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council; Deputy Minister cum Deputy Head of the Government Committee for Ethnic Minority Affairs Hoàng Thị Hạnh; Head of the Religious Affairs Committee under the Central Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee Nguyễn Văn Thanh; Vice Chairman of Hoa Binh provincial People's Committee Đinh Công Sứ; Director of the Buddhist Affairs Department under the Government Committee for Religious Affairs Nguyễn Phúc Nguyên, and Director of the provincial Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs (co-chair of the seminar organizing board) Quách Thị Kiều.

According to the organizing board, the seminar received 31 presentation papers from scholars and researchers, of which 10 papers were presented at the event, discussing the role of Buddhism in Hoa Binh province with activities to promote social welfare for people in the province.

As highlighted, the VBS chapter in Hoa Binh province has proactively engaged in solving current social issues, promoting the good quintessence of Buddhism, contributing to peace, stability and the socio-economic development in the province in particular and the country in general.
