School for children with disabilities school run by Congregation of St Paul de Chartres in Da Nang

Thanh Tam special school, located in No. 121 Phan Tu street, My An ward, Ngu Hanh Son district, Da Nang city, was established in September 1989 by the Congregation of St Paul de Chartres.
The school is currently run by nuns of the Congregation and directly guided by specialized educators, specialists, and therapists in many fields of hearing and intellectual impairment, autism, etc.
After 20 years of the growth, the school has become well-known for education and rehabilitation care for children with disabilities, helping them integrated into society.
The main activities of the school include early intervention for children aged from 0 to 6 using the Montessori method; provision of therapy and rehabilitation activities to help children with disabilities integrated into the community; community-based rehabilitation program in Quang Nang province and Da Nang city, and vocational training for children and young people with disabilities, etc.
The school has currently 15 classes and six vocational training courses for mỏe than 280 children and young people with disabilities, divided into classes for children with hearing impairment, intellectual impairment, autism and vocational training.
Especially, after each course, about 80% of children have become sufficiently independent and able to self-care and eating; 95% of children can walk with assistance or self-walking, and 100% of parents who has children with disabilities know how to care and assist them at their home.
For the last 20 years, about 100 children with disabilities at the school have been able to speak or care for themselves and 30 students have been provided with vocational training.
