Religious women in Central Highlands in response to Environment Day

06/05/2017

The Vietnam Women's Union (VWU), in association with the Central Highlands Steering Committee and the Dak Lak provincial People’s Committee, held a meeting in response to the World Environment Day on June 2 in Buon Ma Thuot City.

Speaking at the meeting, President of the VWU Nguyễn Thị Thu Hà said that Vietnam is one of the five countries that has been strongly influenced by global climate change. Specifically, each year Vietnam loses nearly 50,000 species of plants and animals, including many endangered wildlife species.

Religious women in the whole country in general and in the Central Highlands in particular have actively participated in charity and social welfare activities. The Central Highlands’ women associations at all levels have developed practical and effective models in response to climate change and for building new-style rural areas.

After the meeting, representatives of religious women of the five Central Highlands provinces together planted memorial trees. The VWU also visited and presented gifts to Vietnamese heroic mothers in Hoa Thuan communes.
