Religious people in Ca Mau proactively engage in Covid-19 fight

  The Southern province of Ca Mau currently has six operative religions of Buddhism, Caodaism, Catholicism, Evangelicalism, Pure-land Buddhism and Hoa Hao Buddhism with over 370,000 followers belonging to the total of 157 organizations and sub-organizations.

 

The first Covid-19 patient in Ca Mau was detected in July 2021. With complicated developments of the pandemic in the province, the provincial government has imposed the social distancing in accordance with the Directive No 16/CT-TTg of the Prime Minister on urgent measures for the Covid-19 prevention and control.

Closely joining the local authorities were leaders of religious organizations in the province. They have strengthened communication on Covid-19 pandemic and encouraged religious followers and places of religious worship to strictly implement regulations of concerning central and local agencies for the disease control, proactively join local authorities in the pandemic prevention work, and provide practical supports to disadvantaged people hard hit by the epidemic.

As a result, worshipping establishments and places of religions in Ca Mau have suspended religious practices in these houses of worship, and strictly observe local regulations on quarantine and lockdown areas if Covid-19 cases or cases of high risks detected. 

Since May this year, followers of religions in Ca Mau have also made contributions worth seven VND billion for the Covid-19 prevention and control work, including the donation of VND 200 million to the Covid-19 vaccine fund, presentations of support packages to hospitals and medical centers, donations of essential supplies to disadvantaged people in lockdown and quarantine areas and poor laborers, and offering of herbal medicine packs, sending of agricultural products to Ho Chi Minh City and other provinces, etc.
