Religious organizations continue supporting Covid-19 prevention

Religious organizations throughout the country have continued applying preventive measures against the Covid-19 epidemic and making practical contributions to the Covid-19 prevention and control.  

Religious dignitaries take part in blood donation

In Hanoi, on April 13, 64 leaders and members from eight religious organizations including 17 dignitaries and 4 foreigners from the Evangelical Church of Vietnam (North) and the Vietnam Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Hanoi have participated in the blood donation program launched by the city Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Committee during the Covid-19 epidemic.

In Kon Tum province on the same day, Most Venerable Thích Quảng Xả, Chairman of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha Chapter in the province presented 50 million VND to the provincial VFF Committee for supporting preventive effors against the nCov pandemic.

In Tuyen Quang province, local religious organizations and individuals have presented cash and supporting materials worth over 93 million VND in total to the provincial VFF Committee.

For supporting the nCov preventing work, Xuan Loc diocese and Bishop Dominic Nguyễn Chu Trinh, former of Xuan Loc diocese have sent 1.4 billion VND to Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee and VFF Committee in Dong Nai province; Vinh diocese, Vinh Thanh major seminary and Xa Doai parish presented over 32 million VND to the VFF Committee in Nghi Dien commune; Priest Joseph Nguyễn Văn Hạnh, head of Son Vi deanery and its members of the deanery of Hung Hoa diocese in Lam Thao district, Phu Tho province presented two million VND and 2,000 facemasks to the VFF Committee in Son Vi commune; Priest Joseph Dương Hữu Tình and the pastoral service of Hai Duong-Kim Lai parish supported 50 million VND; Nam Can parish of Can Tho diocese presented 10 million VND to the VFF Committee in Nam Can district, Ca Mau province. In addition, the Catholic solidarity committees in provinces and cities of Ha Noi, Ho Chi Minh, Nghe An, Vung Tau, Da Nang presented over 121 million VND to the Covid-19 combating fund.

Hoa Hoa Buddhist Church has so far donated over one billion VND, 80 tons of rice, 120,000 facemasks and provided thousands of free meals, and drinks and necessities at quarantine centers in provinces. Many followers have also participated in blood donation programs and contributed 355 units of blood to health facilities in localities. 

The Vietnam Pure-land Buddhist Association have contributed rice, drinks and cash for supporting the Covid-19 epidemic prevention and people affected by drought and salt water intrusion in Southern region valued at 800 million VND including 488 million VND cash, 68,000 facemasks, 100 boxes of noodles, 100 boxes of fresh water, 40 tons of rice and 200 sets of gift to the poor.

The Faith Association of Four Debts of Gratitude has supported 160 million VND, 7 tons of rice, 200 boxes of noodle and delivered 20,000 facemasks to people visiting the worshipping places of the association for recent weeks.

The Islamic communities in province and cities have presented 23 million VND to the nCov preventing work, 85 sets of gift to the poor households and provided free facemasks, dry hand sanitizer, and body temperature monitors in many mosques.

In addition, many religious followers have also proactively joined the texting campaign for Vietnam’s fight against the COVID-19 launched by the Ministry of Information and Communication and relevant agencies.
