Religious organizations continue helping people affected by Covid-19 pandemic in localities

In the ongoing outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, religious organizations have continued their charitable activities for helping people facing difficulties due to the pandemic in localities.

On August 30, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee (VFF) sent agricultural products gathered at Som Rong pagoda to disadvantaged people in Ho Chi Minh City.

This agricultural transportation includes three tons of rice, four tons of cucumber, four tons of white radish, nearly 5 tons of taro and more than 1 ton of vegetables, cabbage and beans, with an estimated valued of over 160 million VND.

As reported, the provincial VFF has so far mobilized resources for donating 152 tons of goods, worth over 2.8 billion VND, to people hard-hit by Covid-19 pandemic in Ho Chi Minh.

In Dong Nai province, on August 28, Truc Lam Vien Nghiem pagoda presented 1,000 sets of foods and necessities to local people and workers living in rented houses.

Meanwhile, in Tay Ninh province, on August 25- 26 Caodai parishes in communes of Thanh Duc (Go Dau district) and Tan Dong (Tan Chau district) under the Tay Ninh Caodai Church offered 170 support packs of rice, cooking oil, soy sauce and other necessities, worth 94 million VND, local people facing difficulties caused by the pandemic outbreak.

In Ben Tre province, since June, 2021, the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) Chapter in the province has contributed 450 million VND to the VBS Central Committee for sending to the VFF Central Committee; donated 100 million VND to the provincial Covid-19 prevention and control fund; presented 10 tons of rice, 100 million VND in cash and 100 kg of coffee to quarantine checkpoints in the province; and offered 3 tons of rice and 30 million VND to three frontline hospitals for the Covid-19 fight in the province.

In Ba Ria – Vung Tau province, for sharing difficulties with people during the imposed social distancing measures, Senior Venerable Thích Thiện Thuận, Vice Chairman of the provincial VBS Executive Committee cum Abbot of Van Thien pagoda in Phu My district has donated 30 tons of rice, 80 tons of fruits and vegetables to Buddhist monks, nuns and people in lockdown areas, and offered funeral services to people who died from Covid-19 in provinces of Dong Nai and Ba Ria – Vung Tau, with the total contributing value at 1.3 billion VND.

In An Giang province, from July to August 25, the Hoa Hao Buddhist Church’s Executive Board in Cho Moi district’s Long Kien commune donated four tons of agricultural products, presented 400 sets of support supplies and 500 free meals to local people affected by the pandemic in the province, and successfully mobilized resources for sending agricultural products worth over 1.3 billion VND to people in Ho Chi Minh city.
