Quang Binh is home two major religions of Catholicism and Buddhism with followers accounting for 12% of the provincial population.
Over the past years, local religious followers in the province have proactively participated in movements launched by local authorities and made practical contributions for the socio-economic development in the locality.
Regarding to environment protection, Catholic and Buddhist religious organizations in the province have signed a cooperation agreement on protection environment and climate change adaptation.
Religious worshipping places such as Dai Giac pagoda (Dong Hoi city), Hoang Phuc pagoda (Le Thuy district), Thanh Hai deanery (Thanh Trach commune, Bo Trach district), Gia Hung parish (Hung Trach commune, Bo Trach district), donated money and working days to repair rural roads, contributing to development of the locality.
In particular, Priest Thomas Lê Minh Danh, Head of Bau Sen sub-parish in Bo Trach’s Phuc Trach commune has successfully raised nearly 700 million VND for building a new cultural center in Thanh Sen 2 village.
The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha Chapter in Quang Binh supports the Covid-19 prevention work
In addition, religious organizations in Quang Binh province have proactively participated in the Covid-19 prevention and control by canceling or suspending religious practices with large gatherings of followers and strictly observing preventive measures against the Covid-19 pandemic
In addition, religious dignitaries and followers have contributed hundreds of millions VND to the Covid-19 prevention and control work in the locality. In particular, the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha Chapter in the province has offered 50 million VND and Catholic parishes in the province donated nearly 100 million VND to the Covid-19 prevention fund.
Moreover, religious dignitaries and deacons in Quang Binh have called on local religious followers to proactively participate in the 15th National Assembly election and all-level People’s Council for 2021-2026 tenure. At localities with large number of Catholic followers, there have been high rates of turnout in the May 23 elections, many communes of Quang Phuc, Quang Phuong, Quang Hoa (Quang Trach district), Phuc Trach, Lam Trach, Hung Trach (Bo Trach district) recorded a voter turnout rate of 99 percent.
248 religious followers have participated as nominated deputies in the election of People’s Councils at all levels in the province, with 134 elected deputies.
