A inauguration ceremony for Dong Yen Pagoda, a 600-year old temple in Nghe An’s Quynh Luu district was held on December 4, after nearly one year of rescontruction.
Attending the ceremony included large numbers of monk, nuns, Buddhist followers from localities and officials representing local authorities.
Ancient Dong Yen pagoda was built in XV century and its upgrade included the main worshipping hall, ancestral and mother goddess temples, on an area of 1,500m2 of land and at the construction cost of nearly seven billion VND, which was largely contributed by Buddhists and donors.
During the ceremony, the provincial Department of Culture, Sport and Tourism presented a certificate of merit to Venerable Abbot of the pagoda Thích Nguyên Quang for contributions to the preservation and promotion of local cultural heritage in 2016.

On the occasion, the pagoda’s management board handed over 200 gift packets to poor families and 30 scholarships to poor excellent pupils from Quynh Long commune, each gift pack worth VND 300,000.
