Quang Ninh provincial Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) Executive Committee started the restoration of Quynh Lam pagoda, part of the Tran Dynasty's special national relic sites in Dong Trieu town, at a ground-breaking ceremony held on April 9th.
Attending the ceremony were Chairman of the VBS Central Executive Council Thích Thiện Nhơn and large numbers of Buddhist dignitaries and followers inside and outside the province.
Distinguished guests at the event included Chief Executive Vice Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs Bùi Thanh Hà, representatives from the central state agencies and local authorities.
Quynh Lam pagoda, located in Trang An town, Dong Trieu district, was established in the 7th century. The pagoda also housed a giant statue of Maitreya Buddha erected by Zen Master Dương Không Lộ in Ly dynasty, which was considered one of the four Great Treasures.
Under the Tran Dynasty, the pagoda became one of the major Buddhist training centres and hosted major Buddhist activities in the early of 14th century.
The restoration project, valued at over VND 195 billion raised from private donors and organizations, includes the Buddha worshipping temple, the three-door (Tam Quan) gate and other facilities in line with their original structure and architecture.
