Hue Festival 2016 with the theme “Cultural Heritage with Integration and Development, 710 years of Thuan Hoa – Phu Xuan – Thua Thien Hue” held in Hue city from April 29 to May 4.
As part of Hue Festival, Thua Thien Hue provincial Vietnam Buddhist Shangha (VBS) held Quang Chieu colored lantern ceremony at Thuong Bac park in Hue city on May 1.
Attending the ceremony included Vice Chairman of the provincial Committee for Religious Affairs Dương Ngọc Tấn, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Phan Ngọc Thọ and large numbers of visitors and local people.
According to Most Venerable Vice Chairman of the provincial VBS Executive Committee Thích Hải Ấn, the Quang Chieu ceremony was first held during the Ly and Tran dynasties and its name, Quang Chieu, means propagation of what the Buddha wishes to communicate to people.
During the ceremony, three kinds of lanterns, namely sky, earth and river lanterns, were lightened up consisting of 710 lanterns representing 710 years of the establishment of Thuan Hoa – Phu Xuan – Thua Thien Hue region.
