A memorial service for the 13 officials and soldiers who were killed by a landslide during their rescue operation at the Rao Trang 3 hydropower plant in the central province of Thua Thien Hue took place at Military Hospital 268 in Hue city on October 18 morning.
Large numbers of representatives from central agencies and sectors, as well as local authorities have joint and paid last tribute to the deceased.
On October 19, a delegation from Thua Thien Hue provincial Religious Affairs Committee and nuns and teachers of Hong Ngoc Kindergarten under the Phu Cam Congregation of Lovers of the Holy Cross in the province also visited the families of martyrs for sharing the painful loss with the relatives of the deceased.
The 13 people were members of a 21-strong rescue team set up on October 12 to rescue workers missing in a landslide at the Rao Trang 3 hydropower plant earlier. They stopped at Ranger Station 67 to rest for the night. A rocky landslide suddenly hit the station at midnight, and only eight of the team successfully managed to escape.
