The Office of the State President held a press conference in Hanoi yesterday to announce the Law on Belief and Religion, together with other two new laws adopted at the 2nd session of the 14th National Assembly last month.
The press conference was chaired by included Deputy Chief of the State President Office Giang Sơn and attended by large numbers of journalists and representatives of concerning ministries and agencies, including Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Nguyễn Trọng Thừa and Vice Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs Bùi Thanh Hà.
Speaking at the press conference, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Nguyễn Trọng Thừa said, in the spirit of the 2013 Constitution, the Law on Belief and Religion affirms the freedom of belief and religion as one of fundamental human rights.
With 68 articles in nine chapters, the Law on Belief and Religion stipulates that everyone has the right to freedom of belief and religion and to follow or not to follow any religion.
During the conference, the Vice Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs also answered journalists’ queries regarding the Vietnam’s first law on the field of belief and religion that will take effect on January 1, 2018.
The other laws announced at the press conference included the Law on Property Auctions and the Law on Amending and Supplementing the Investment Law’s Article 6 and Appendix 4 on the list of conditional business lines.
