Hailing positive contributions made by the VBS to the national construction and development, Politburo member Nhân expressed his hope that the VBS would continue promoting the fine traditions of Buddhism while encouraging Buddhist monks, nuns and followers to follow the Party and State’s policies and laws and response to VFF-launched programmes.

He also hoped to see the further participation of VBS members in social movements for pre-school education, social welfare, vocational training, caring for the poor, environmental protection, HIV/AIDS prevention and control, and climate change adaption.

Visiting the Vietnamese Pure-Land Buddhist Association, the VFF leader commended the association on its establishment of offices for Vietnamese traditional medicine which examine and provide treatment using traditional herbs for residents free of charge.

These offices last year supplied free health check-ups and treatment for more than 4.4 million people at a total cost of VND 168 billion.

Also on the occasion of Lord Buddha’s birthday, Politburo member and Deputy Prime Minister Trương Hòa Bình visited and presented gifts to the Khmer Theravada Buddhist Institute Academy in Can Tho city on the same day.

Congratulating the Khmer Theravada Buddhists on their major celebration, the Government official stressed that the Party and State always respect the legitimate right to freedom of belief.

He also reaffirmed the Party and State’s consistent policy on developing the socio-economic situation among religious communities.

He called on every Khmer Theravada Buddhist to observe religious practices while fulfilling duties to the country as a citizen.
