Notre Dame Cathedral in Ho Chi Minh City roof restoration proposed

Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports has submitted a report on the restoration of the Notre Dame Cathedral’s roof to the city People’s Committee for approval.

The roof is 91m in length, 35m in width and 57.3m in height. It will be restored from 2017 to 2019. The capital will be mobilized from the society.

The Cathedral, located in District 1, is one of the most popular tourist sites in the city. Any restoration work on the building requires prior approval from the local government as it is a protected heritage site.

The Cathedral was built by French colonialists. On October 7th, 1877, Bishop Isidore Colombert laid the first stone in an inaugural ceremony. However, it was inaugurated in 1880. It has two bell towers with a height of 58 meters./.
