No celebrating gatherings of Vu Lan festival encouraged in Hai Phong

Hai Phong municipal Committee for Religious Affairs sent on August 8 a dispatch to People’s Committees in the city’s districts asking for a continuous implementation of strict measures against he Covid-19 pandemic at belief and religious worshipping places.

Accordingly, the municipal religious committee recommended the People's Committee of the city districts to visit and congratulate Buddhist dignitaries on occasion of Vu Lan Festival - Buddhist Parents’ Day this year. 

The municipal religious committee also asked the district-level People's Committee to encourage the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, Buddhist places, monks, nuns and lay Buddhists in districts to celebrate Vu Lan festival and recite Vu Lan (Ullambana) Sutra at their own places, and not to hold large gatherings, including the “rose lapel” ceremony, for cerebrating the festival.

The dispatch also encouraged monks, nuns and lay Buddhists to practically contribute to the Covid-19 prevention and vaccine funds, and to help disadvantaged people severely affected by the epidemic in localities.
