Ninh Thuan province: Cham Brahmin community celebrates Kate festival 2015

Kate festival 2015 took place on the first day of the 7th month of the Cham Calendar, which fell on Oct. 12 and often regarded an opportunity for the ethnic Brahman community to pay tributes to their ancient gods and ancestors.

Kate is one of the most popular Cham festivals in Ninh Thuan province, a time-honored festival of the Cham people to pray for good weather and bumper harvests as well as the growth of all beings.

Attending the event at Poklaonggirai tower this year includes Vice Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs Trần Tấn Hùng, Consular General of Indian Consulate in Ho Chi Minh city Smita Pant, Secretary of the provincial Party Committee Nguyễn Đức Thanh, and a large number of people in the locality.

Speaking at the festival, Mr. Nguyễn Đức Thanh extended Kate festival’s greetings to Cham people and encouraged Cham ethnics to preserve the fine and cultural traditions. 

Kate festival 2015 took place in October 12 – 13 with worshipping rituals at temples (Po rô mê tower in Hau Xanh commune, Pôynưnưgar temple in Huu Duc commune and  Poklaonggirai tower in Cohala mountain) and celebrating activities in the village and families.
