Nghe An province: Abbot of Hong Phuc pagoda appointed

The abbot of Hong Phuc Pagoda in Nghe An province’s Nghi Loc district was formally announced at a ceremony held by the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) Chapter’s Executive Committee in the province on April 16.

Attending the ceremony included Venerable Vice Chairman of the provincial VBS Executive Committee Thích Thọ Lạc, representatives from local authorities and large numbers of Buddhist dignitaries and followers in the locality.

Hong Phuc pagoda is an ancient pagoda and seriously degraded after many years of existence. In order to meet present religious needs of followers in the locality, local authorities approved the reconstruction of Hong Phuc pagoda in 2013.

At the ceremony, the provincial VBS Executive Committee presented the appointment decision to Venerable Thích Châu Phong, the new Abbot of Hong Phuc pagoda. The casting work for a great bell weighing one ton and worth over VND 400 million was also started with distinctive Buddhist rituals and prayers for peace and prosperity.

On this occasion, Nghi Loc district Vietnam Fatherland Committee presented a certificate of merit to Hong Phuc pagoda for practical contributions in social and charitable activities during 2015-2017 period.
