The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) Executive Committee in Quang Ninh province in collaboration with the People’s Committee in Co To district held on October 9 a groundbreaking ceremony for construction of Truc Lam pagoda located in Thanh Lan commune’s Tran Island.
Attending the event included Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Council Lê Văn Ánh, Senior Venerable Thích Thanh Lịch, Vice Chairman of the provincial VBS Executive Committee, and large numbers of monks, nuns, lay Buddhists and locals in Tran Island village.
As reported, the construction project of Truc Lam pagoda will be developed on nearly 4 ha including the main worshipping hall, an ancestral worshipping temple, a worshipping temple dedicated to the three patriarchs, a temple worshipping for national hero Trần Hưng Đạo and generals of Tran dynasty, a house for monks, a guest house, a three-entrance gate and other facilities. The total investment of the construction is about 47 billion VND.
Covering an area of 4.5 square kilometers, Tran Island located in Co To district’s Thanh Lan commune has a strategic position on national defense in the north-western sea territory of the country. Building the pagoda in Tran Island is like building a cultural landmark, affirms, and helps strengthen the sovereignty in the region.
