New Catholic seminary established in Vietnam North

The establishment of Bui Chu Mary Immaculate Conception Major Seminary was officially announced at a ceremony held on August 9 in Vietnam Northern province of Nam Dinh.

Attending the ceremony included Vice Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) Dương Ngọc Tấn, Vice Chairman of Nam Dinh provincial People’s Committee Ngô Gia Tự, Auxiliary Bishop of Hanoi Archdiocese cum Director of Hanoi St. Joseph Major Seminary Lawrence Chu Văn Minh, representatives from state authorities and large numbers of priests and followers in Bui Chu diocese.

During the event, Bishop of Bui Chu diocese Thomas Vũ Đình Hiệu was presented with a decision approving the establishment of Bui Chu Mary Immaculate Conception Major Seminary.

The new seminary became the 8th major seminary opened in Vietnam. Last year, the first Catholic Institute also was approved in the country.

On the occasion, on behalf of the GCRA Vice Chairman Dương Ngọc Tấn presented a financial support to Trung Lao parish as its church was seriously damaged by fire on August 5, 2017.
