National Assembly Committee holds seminar on draft law on belief, religion in Ho Chi Minh City

The National Assembly Committee for Culture, Education, Youth, Adolescents and Children held on July 14 a seminar for gathering comments from experts to the draft law on belief and religion.

The event was presided over by Chairman of the Committee for Culture, Education, Youth, Adolescents and Children of the National Assembly Nguyễn Thanh Hải, and attended by Chief Executive Vice Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs cum Deputy Head of the Drafting Committee Bùi Thanh Hà, and large numbers of experts, scholars and officials in Southern provinces.

During the seminar, participating delegates unanimously consented to the necessity of the draft law on belief and religion project. They also pointed out that the draft has institutionalized the documents of the Party and State on the right to freedom of belief and religion, in accordance with the spirit of the Constitution 2013 as well as international treaties related to religion that Vietnam has signed or acceded to.

In addition, the seminar’s participants also focused on discussion of specific issues relating to the freedom of belief and religion, legal status of religious organizations, etc.
