01/10/2018

Nang Hai festival, which means Damsel of the Moon, represents a unique folk culture of Tay ethnic group in Cao Bang province.

The festival is usually held every 2-3 years in the last week of the 3rd lunar month in Kim Dong and Tien Thanh communes in the province, and for a period from 1 to 3 days.

The festival typically features the performance of songs and rituals to celebrate supernatural forces associated with the moon god and show a respect and gratitude to them for their help in bringing good crops and property.

The festival has been listed as a national intangible cultural heritage by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism since June 20, 2017. The recognition for Nang Hai festival aims to preserve and promote a unique tradition of Tay ethnic community.
