MOU on aquatic resource protection signed between agriculture, rural department and Buddhist Chapter in Can Tho

A memorandum of understanding (MOU) on releasing live fish and aquatic resource protection between the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s chapter in Can Tho City was signed on March 27.
Under the MOU, the provincial department and Buddhist chapter will cooperate in the propaganda and technical guidance for releasing live fish into the natural environment, contributing to the environmental protection and the biodiversity of aquatic resources.
The two sides will also strengthen the dissemination of State policies and laws on protecting aquatic resources, especially rare species.
The two sides will collaborate in organizing of releasing live fish twice yearly, on occasion of the traditional day of Vietnam's fisheries sector and the Vu Lan Buddhist festival.
In addition, the Buddhist chapter and the provincial VBS’ executive boards at district level will be responsible for motivating local Buddhist dignitaries and followers to actively participate in the protection of aquatic resources and living environment when releasing fish into the river.
As reported, from 3 to 5 tons of all kinds of fish has been released into the water environment for previous years in Can Tho city.
