The construction of the monument of King Hàm Nghi and Can Vuong soldiers was started at the ground-breaking ceremony held on July 13 at Tan So national relic site located in Quang Tri province’s Cam Lo district.

The construction of the King Hàm Nghi monument inspired by the architectural design of the Nguyễn dynasty was expected to be complete in late 2019 with the total investment of 6.5 VND billion.

Tan So citadel was built in 1883 and completed in two years. The citadel became a resistance center against France in July 1885 after Can Vuong Appeal proclaimed by Regent Tôn Thất Thuyết on behalf of King Hàm Nghi.

Tan So citadel was recognized as a national site in 1995.
