Deputy Minister of Home Affairs in charge of religious affairs Nguyễn Trọng Thừa paid a visit on May 4 to the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s Executive Council at its head office in Hanoi, on occasion of the Buddha’s Birthday Festival 2017.
The deputy minister’s visit was joint by Director of Government Committee for Religious Affairs’ Buddhist Affairs Department Bùi Hữu Dược and welcomed by Most Venerable Vice Chairman of the VBS Executive Council Thích Thanh Nhiễu.
During the visiting reception, while extending best wishes to VBS’s dignitaries, Buddhist monks, nuns and followers across the country on the Vesak celebration 2017, Mr. Nguyễn Trọng Thừa encouraged Buddhist believers and dignitaries to further uphold Buddhist values of compassion, wisdom and solidarity, as well as join hands together with State authorities, other religions and the whole people in the fields of social charity, education and environmental protection, contributing to build the prosperous country of Vietnam.
Deputy Minister Nguyễn Trọng Thừa expressed hope that the VBS’s Executive Council will successfully organize the 8th national Buddhist congress for the 2017-2022 tenure planned for November this year.
