Meeting with abbots & management boards of Khmer pagoda held in Soc Trang

The Committee for Ethnic Affairs in Soc Trang province held on March 26 an exchange meeting with abbots and the management boards of Khmer pagodas in the province on socio-economic development, ethnic and religious policies 2022.

The event saw the presence of Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party’s Committee cum Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Trần Văn Lâu, Chairman of the provincial Commission for Mass Mobilization cum Chairman of the provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee Dương Sà Kha, and representatives from local agencies.

During the event, local authorities informed about Resolution No. 04-NQ/TU dated on July 9, 2021 of the provincial Party’s Committee on guiding the national target program on socio-economic development in ethnic minority-inhabited and mountainous areas in the 2021-2025 period and towards 2030; Decision No. 612/QD-UBDT, dated September 16, 2021 of the Committee for Ethnic Minorities, approving the list of extremely difficult villages in ethnic minority and mountainous areas in the 2021-2025 period and preparation works for the congress of the Association for Solidarity of Patriotic Monks in the province for the 2022 – 2027 tenure.

Speaking at the event, while extending best wishes to the abbots and the management boards of the pagodas on occasion of the traditional New Year (Chol Chnam Thmay) festival, Chairman Trần Văn Lâu expressed hope that they would promote their bridging role for Khmer people to join local authorities in disseminating policies on ethnic affairs for Khmer people, contributing to the socio-economic development of the locality. He also asked concerning local authorities to create favorable conditions for Khmer countrymen to exercise the right to freedom of religion.
