Many religious establishments in HCMC agree to be relocated for building Thu Thiem New Urban Zone

The Prime Minister has approved a plan for the Thu Thiem New Urban Area with clearance of 930 hectares in wards of An Khanh, Binh An, Binh Khanh, An Loi Dong and Thu Thiem (District 2, Ho Chi Minh city (HCMC)).
According to the Board of Land Clearance and Compensation of District 2, 14,266 out of nearly 14,400 compensation dossiers (99,05%) have been cleared. And so far, 22 religious establishments (including 10 Buddhist pagodas) in Thu Thiem New Urban Area agreed to hand over their land and accepted relocation of their worshipping places at other residential areas in District 2 with more spacious worshipping facilities have been completed and religious activities have been conducted on regular basis at the new worshipping establishments.
Up to now, about 6,8 hectares of land remain to be cleared, including Thu Thiem Church, Thanh Tam chapel, Thu Thiem Congregation of Lovers of the Holy Cross and Lien Tri Pagoda.
Lien Tri Pagoda was located in No. 153 Luong Dinh Cua Street in District 2’s An Khanh ward. The pagoda has been relocated in the district’s Cat Lai ward with 698,1 m2 of land (88m2 greater than the old pagoda) with better infrastructures and more than 9 billion VND of compensation. As part of the plan, the relocation of Lien Tri Pagoda is necessary for the socio-economic development in HCMC.
