Many relic sites shut down as precaution against Covid-19 spreads

Many relic sites and worship places across the country have been closed in response to appeals by local authorities for curbing the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.  

Chau Doc city People’s Committee in An Giang informed on May 10 the closing of Sam Mountain pilgrimage site worshiping Ba Chua Xu (Regional Goddess) as a cautious measure against the Covid-19 pandemic.

Earlier, the Chairman of An Giang provincial People’s Committee asked Chau Doc provincial city People’s Committee to suspend the opening ceremony of the Ba Chua Xu Festival to be held from June 2 to 7, scale down the festival and perform religious rites only.

Sam Mountain pilgrimage site has been recognized as a national tourist site in 2018, and has area of ​​about 1,500 hectares with many unique and attractive natural landscapes, historical and cultural relics such as Ba Chua Xu Temple, Thoai Ngoc Hau Tomb, Tay An Pagoda, Hang Pagoda... Every year the festival attracts around five million visitors.

On the same day, Phu Yen authorities has temporarily closed local relic sites and worship places and suspend all religious ceremonies in the province.

Previously, many relic sites and places of worship across the country such as Hue Monument Complex, Ho Citadel world heritage site, Hoa Lu ancient capital relic site, Thang Long Thang Long Imperial Citadel, have been closed to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
