List of disadvantaged ethnic groups for 2021-2025 period approved

A Government decision No.1227/QĐ-TTg on approving a list of 32 disadvantaged ethnic groups and 14 ethnic groups with particular disadvantages for the 2021-2025 period was issued on July 14.

The decision No.1227/QĐ-TTg was signed by Deputy Prime Minister Trương Hòa Bình and the ethnic groups listed are those currently living in communes of the third region and villages with special disadvantages in ethnic minority and mountainous areas.

The 32 disadvantaged ethnic groups includes La Hu, Phu La, La Chi, Khang, Ha Nhi, Xinhmun, Co, Taoi, Cotu, Khmu, Bru-Van Kieu, Mnong, Raglai, Sodang, Hmong, Xtieng, Giarai, Dao, Nung, Tay, San Chay, Lao, Giay, Gie Trieng, Muong, Bana, Hre, Cham, Ede, Co-ho, Khmer, and Ma.

14 particularly disadvantaged ethnic groups includes Odu, Brau, Romam, Pu Peo, Si La, Cong, Bo Y, Co Lao, Mang, Lo Lo, Chut, Lu, Pa Then, and La Ha.

The Committee for Ethnic Minority Affairs was asked to gather general data of these ethnic groups and report to the Prime Minister for consideration and decision to adjust and supplement the list of disadvantaged ethnic groups and particularly disadvantaged ethnic groups according to current state regulations.

Particularly disadvantaged ethnic groups in the list will continue receiving  the benefiting policies applicable to very few ethnic minorities that have been issued and are still in effect.
