The Representative Committee of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) in Vietnam was granted official recognition at a ceremony held on May 31.
Attending the ceremony included Chairman of the Vietnam LDS Church’s Representative Committee Hoàng Văn Tùng and followers of the Church in Vietnam. Member of the Church’s Presidency of the Seventy Gerit W. Gong, Member of the Church’s Quorum of the Twelve-Apostles Gary E. Stevenson, Chairman of the LDS Church in Asia region Rady Funk and representatives of U.S. Embassy in Vietnam also joint the event.
The ceremony saw participation of Chief Executive Vice Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affiars (GCRA) Bùi Thanh Hà, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Lê Bá Trình and local authorities’ representatives.
As reported earlier, the GCRA approved the establishment of the Provisional Representative Committee of the Vietnam LDS Church on May 30, 2014. During the first term (2014-2016), under the guidance of the Provisional Representative Committee, the Vietnam LDS Church demonstrated its respects for family values, cultural traditions and observance of State laws. The Church’s dignitaries and followers also made practical contributions to healthcare, education, environmental protection and charities.

The general conference held by the Provisional Representative Committee on April 24, 2016 elected the five-member Representative Committee for second-term with Mr. Hoàng Văn Tùng re-elected as the Committee Chairman.

Speaking at ceremony, Vice Chairman Bùi Thanh Hà praised the Vietnam LDS Church for its social contributions in the past two years and extended congratulatory wishes to the new Representative Committee. He also expressed his hope that the Vietnam LDS Church’s Representative Committee would make further contributions to social welfare and community development in Vietnam.
