On November 21, 2013, at the cathedral of Lang Son-Cao Bang diocese, a grand ceremony was held to mark the 100th founding anniversary of the diocese.
Attending the event were Archbishop Leopoldo Girelli, non-resident special envoy of the Vatican Holy See to Vietnam, Archbishop of Hanoi Peter Nguyễn Văn Nhơn, Bishops of Bac Ninh, Thai Binh, Hung Hoa, Phat Diem, Bui Chu, Thanh Hoa and Hai Phong dioceses as well as thousands of Catholics in the diocese.
Representatives from the Government Committee for Religious Affairs, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee, central and local agencies were also present at the ceremony.
Bishop Joseph Đặng Đức Ngân of Lang Son-Cao Bang diocese, in his welcome remark, briefed the guests on the 100-year history of the diocese with important milestones. The diocese now has one bishop, 16 priests and over 5,000 followers. It covers more than 500km but has the smallest number of followers as compared to other dioceses in the Catholic Church of Vietnam.
The celebration of its centenary of Lang Son – Cao Bang diocese was organized solemnly.
