Kiên Giang province: Giang Thanh district VBS holds 3rd general congress

The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) chapter in Kien Giang province’s Giang Thanh district held the general congress for 2016-2021 tenure on August 15.

Attending the congress were dignitaries of the provincial VBS Executive Committee, the district-level VBS executive boards in the province and  representatives of Buddhist temples in the district.

Local guests at the event included Chairman of the provincial Committee for Religious Affairs Nguyễn Hoàng Oanh and Vice Chairman of the district People's Committee Bùi Văn Mến.

During the congress, the district VBS Executive Board reviewed results of Buddhist affairs in the previous term and mapped out the working plan for the 2016-2021 tenure. As reported at the congress, in addition to good results recorded in Buddhist affairs, Buddhist dignitaries and followers in the district have contributed nearly seven billion VND in social, charitable activities.

The congress also elected 19 members to the new-term executive board of the district VBS with Venerable Thích Tuệ Định as the Board Chairman.

On this occasion, Vice Chairman Bùi Văn Mến also presented certificates of merit to the district VBS Executive Board, pagodas of Giang Thanh and Ta Peng for their outstanding contribution in social, charitable activities in the locality./.
