Kien Giang province: Chau Thanh district VBS Executive Board holds 8th general conference

Chau Thanh district’s Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) Executive Board in Kien Giang province held on July 17 the 8th general congress for 2016-2021 tenure at the district People’s Committee hall.

Attending the event were dignitaries from the provincial VBS Executive Committee, the district-level VBS executive boards in the province, representatives of Buddhist pagodas in the district, and a large number of followers in the locality.

Local guests at the congress included Vice Chairman of the provincial Committee for Religious Affairs Trương Hoàng Anh and local authorities’ representatives.

At the congress, Chau Thanh district VBS Executive Board reviewed results of education of monks and nuns, Buddhist propagation and guidance for followers, Buddhist rites and cultural activities for the last tenure. As reported at the event, in the last five years, Buddhist dignitaries and followers in the district have contributed 51 billion VND to social and charitable activities, including the construction of concrete bridges, charitable houses and rural roads in the locality.

The Buddhist congress elected 19 members to the new-term VBS Executive Board for the 8th tenure (2016-2021) with Monk Danh Liêm as Head of the Board.
