Kien Giang province: An Minh district VBS holds congress

An Minh district Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) Executive Board in Kien Giang province held the general congress for 2016 – 2021 tenure on April 26, at Thanh An pagoda.

Attending the ceremony were 126 Buddhist delegates in the district and representatives from the provincial VBS Executive Committee and VBS Executive Boards in other province’s districts, town.

Local guests at the event included Vice Chairman of the provincial Committee for Religious Affairs Danh Lắm, Chairman of the district Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee Huỳnh Tấn Để and representatives from local religious organizations of Hoa Hoa Buddhist Church and Correction-Path Caodai Church.

The congress reviewed Buddhist and social affairs of the district VBS Executive Board in the previous term which include charity activities conducted at an estimated value of over seven billion VND.

The one-day congress chose 15 members of the new-term VBS Executive Board for 2016 – 2021 tenure which Venerable Thích Thiện Nhựt was re-elected as Board Chairman.

The congress also nominated Venerable Chairman of the district VBS Executive Board Thích Thiện Nhựt and Venerable Vice Chairman Thích Đạo Chấn to the election of the district People’s Council for the 2016-2021 tenure.

During the event, the district People’s Committee presented certificates of merit to three collectives and two individuals for their outstanding contributions in social and charitable activities in the district.

On the occasion, the district VBS Executive Board officially inaugurated a bridge across Xeo Nhao river in An Minh district. The construction of bridge was started in 2013, with a total budget of 3.2 billion VND which mainly funded by Buddhists.
