The first Southern Khmer folk singing festival kicked off at an opening ceremony held on April 02 in Soc Trang provincial radio and TV station.
The festival drew 300 contestants from provinces of Soc Trang, Tra Vinh and Kien Giang with 125 performances.

The festival as part of activities celebrating the traditional New Year Chol Chnam Thmey of Khmer communities contributed to promote the cultural identity of Khmer people in Southern region.
