Jade Buddha for Peace to be displayed in pagodas in Quang Binh, Hai Phong

03/11/2016

Quang Binh provincial and Hai Phong city People’s Committees have approved of the proposals to display the Jade Buddha for Peace in Hoang Phuc pagoda in Le Thuy district of Quang Binh province on March 14-27 and Hong Phuc pagoda in Kien An district of Hai Phong city on April 8-20.

The Jade Buddha for Peace is the largest Buddha carved from gemstone quality jade from northern Canada and later carved by Thai artisans. The statue is modeled on the Siddhartha Gautama Buddha inside the Mahabodhi Stupa in India’s Bodh Gaya. It stands 2.7 meters high, four tons in weight, sitting on a solid alabaster throne of 1.4 meters high.  Its size and beauty make it a wonder of the world.

The statue started the world tour in 2009, including Vietnam, contributing to meet the worshipping needs of Buddhist monks, nuns and followers around the world.

It’s reported that, after being brought to Vietnam for the second time, the Jade Buddha will be placed permanently in Australia.
