Islam community in An Giang convenes fourth congress

The Islam Community in An Giang province successfully held its fourth congress for the 2020-2025 tenure on July 1-2 at NekMah temple located in Tan Chau district’s Chau Phong commune.  

The congress drew the participation of 133 delegates representing the Islam Community in the province.

Guests at the event included Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee in An Giang Lê Văn Phước, Chairman of the provincial Ethnic Committee Men Pholly, representatives of the Committee for Ethnic Minority Affairs, Institutes of Religious Studies and Social Sciences in Southern region, and provincial authorities in An Giang.

As reported at the event, An Giang province currently has over 11,000 Islamic followers, accounting for 0.58% of the population in the province. Over the past time, dignitaries and followers of the provincial Islam community have spent over two billion VND on the construction of 14 charitable houses, relief supports to nine households severely suffering from natural disasters, and presentation of nine gift sets to Resistance Prisoners' Association in Chau Phong commune and 3000 gift sets to poor families, etc.

The two-day congress selected 17 members to the Representative Committee of the Islam community in the province for the 2020-2025 term, with Rev. Raccarigia (Jacky) reselected as the committee’s chairman.

On the occasion, the People’s Committee in An Giang presented certificates of recommendation to one group and five individuals for their outstanding contributions to social development in the province in the last term.
